Acne

Acne is a skin condition that occurs when the pores on the skin get clogged. This process may attract bacteria to the site, causing an inflammatory response and resulting in pimples and break outs. It is most commonly seen in adolescents and young adults and usually gets better with age. However, it is not unusual for older adults to have acne later in life.

Acne is a multifactorial skin condition with myriads of treatment options ranging from topical treatments to more aggressive remedies such as medical grade facials (acne surgery), oral antibiotics, Isotretinoin and even treatments geared to address a possible hormonal imbalance. Since acne may affect both an individual’s appearance and self esteem, it is very important to seek a board certified dermatologist’s opinion and get informed of all treatment options.
